CREAMERY COVERED BRIDGE CLOSING
The Creamery Covered bridge closes to all vehicle traffic at 7 am, Monday, August 10 for the construction of a new bridge just downstream. This bridge stays closed until the Contractors winter shutdown in November or December, when it re-opens until construction starts up in the spring. Pedestrians and bicycles may continue using the bridge during construction. A one lane passageway from the bridge past construction on Guilford Street will be designated.
For access to Guilford Street and Living Memorial Park vehicles must enter from the Maple Street end, off Canal Street or Fairview Street. There will be no thru traffic between Canal and Western Avenue once the bridge is closed. The best alternate route is I-91 between exit 1 and exit 2. A detour has been set up by the Town from Western Avenue to Maple Street for people unfamiliar with the area. This detour follows Williams Street to Elliot Street, up hill past Birge Street on Estey, continuing the length of Pleasant Street to Maple Street.
Take I-91 to Exit 1. From the off-ramp turn right onto Canal Street (or left if you're coming from the north), pass the first light and then take your first left onto Fairview St. Go 0.5 mile to the end of the street and turn left onto Maple Street. Go 0.7 mile to the end of Maple St. and turn right at the stop sign. You will soon see the park on your left; when you get to the entrance, turn left into the parking lot and then go up the hill to the rink parking lot.
Any questions or lost, call the rink at 802-257-2311.
J.A. McDonald of Lyndon Center, Vermont is contracted to build Brattleboros new bridge with a completion date of September 10, 2010. The contractor is projecting a completion date as early as July, 2010.

The Grey Hawks Ice the Enforcers
The Brattleboro Hockey Association capped its winter season with a Benefit hockey game for the BHA scholarship fund at the Memorial Park rink.
The match featured the The Grey Hawks, a local team of BHA and BUHS coaches, and The Enforcers a team of State Troopers, Local Police Officers, Firefighters, Homeland Security Agents, Investigators for the Agency of Natural Resources, Investigators for the Attorney General's Office, County Sheriffs and one Hanover NH Police Officer.
From the first face off the teams kept the packed rink alive with action. The Hawks got on the board first, and held the lead through the second period. Then at the opening of the third period the troopers stormed back. In the end, the Hawks netted three goals to take the game 8-5.
The law enforcement Hockey Club supports youth hockey, Cancer Camps, Special Olympics and Youth Centers across the state. And their visit to Brattleboro raised significant scholarship funds that will help the BHA get more kids on the ice.
For the 2009-10 year, the BHA will field co-ed teams for players ages 5-14 and a U14 Girls team, along with its development Learn-to-Skate program. Anyone interested in learning more about youth hockey in the Brattleboro area, please contact the BHA at info@brattleborohockey.org.
